Job Summary

The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute (UMDI) Connected Beginnings (CB) Family Child Care Coach / Trainer provides guidance, training, and coaching in the implementation of best practices in Family Child Care Systems and programs.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and delivers training in the successful implementation of best practices for family child care educators and family child care system staff in multiple training formats.
  • Provides ongoing in-person and virtual coaching and technical assistance, regionally and statewide as appropriate, regarding all aspects of family child care system best practices implementation.
  • Provides the CB team with expert guidance and insight on the unique strengths and needs within the family child care field.
  • Provides resource information for family child care educators and family child care system staff relevant to industry navigation including but not limited to supports available through the regional professional development centers, and other resources in the community.

Provides accurate documentation and reporting as required by sponsors.

Supports Early Childhood Social Emotional Health Specialist in implementing Pyramid Model practices in family childcare systems and programs.

Other Functions

  • Contributes to the development and creation of proposals for continued CB work addressing family child care as appropriate.
  • Participates in business unit and UMDI meetings and initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience managing a family child care program.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in Pyramid Model practices and best practices in family child care settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing effective training to adult learners.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with common business software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to independently travel to programs throughout New England.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as a member of a team with varying levels of support.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Academic discipline : Early Childhood Development or related disciplines.
  • Experience in working with or in a family child care system.
  • Trained in Practice-Based Coaching (PBC).
  • Bilingual verbal fluency in English / Spanish or English / Portuguese.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Conduct work in a home-based office with high-speed internet access, sufficiently free of distractions, where employee will be expected to maintain regular communication with supervising manager(s) and clients.
  • Multiple hours in a stationary position using office equipment and computers.
  • Office environment is a busy, collegial area resulting in multiple interruptions and requests for assistance.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team member and with varying amounts of support, as project assignments may require.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Must have the ability to travel independently on an as-needed basis.
  • Some transporting of supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • The physical / mental demands and work environment factors described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This is a full-time, benefited position.
  • This position may be funded by grants and / or contracts, and is contingent upon funding.

Work Schedule

  • Standard full-time work schedule consisting 40 hours per week. Work performed in addition to the regular work hours may be necessary, and may require a change in availability at specific times, to accommodate for variations in work demands.
  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week.

As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
